What To Do If You Spot a Leak?

STEP 1: IDENTIFY THE LEAK– Check to see if the leak is CONSTANT, or if it’s only happening when the CONTROLLER IS TURNED ON. If it is happening while the system is TURNED ON through the controller then you have a lateral line break. Simply turn off the controller and wait for your service person to come and take a look. If it is a CONSTANT leak and happening without the power of the controller, then proceed to STEP 2.

STEP 2: TURNING OFF YOUR IRRIGATION- Turning off your irrigation system from the controller won’t always help the issue. If you have a CONSTANT leak then you need to turn off the water at the source. To help identify where this is, look a little past your WATER METER to see if there is a GREEN RECTANGULAR LID.

That likely controls the BACK FLOW device used only for your irrigation water. Uncovering the lid should reveal two handles that you can turn off either by hand or with a pipe wrench. Giving one of the handles a quarter turn should turn off your irrigation system leaving you with water to your house supply. But sometimes those handles, either rusted or broken off, can be difficult to turn off. If that happens then proceed to STEP 3.
